ANU in world's top rankings for arts, humanities, and social sciences

The latest round of QS World University Rankings for Social Sciences has been released. ANU has been ranked number 13 in the World for Sociology and number 10 in the World for Politics and International Studies.
These rankings come on the back of ANU being ranked 12th out of universities worldwide in Arts and Humanities.
These latest rankings highlight the University's strength in these disciplines. These disciplines feature in many of the College of Arts and Social Sciences new degrees commencing in 2012. For example, the Bachelor of International Relations and the Bachelor of Policy Studies encompass Political Science, International Relations, and Sociology courses.
The QS World University Rankings have been published annually since 2004 and ANU has continually been ranked very highly.
Students of the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences can study courses in disciplines ranked amongst the best in the world:
- Languages, Philosophy, Geography ranked 6th
- Linguistics, Politics and International Studies ranked 10th
- History ranked12th
- Sociology ranked 13th
Professor Toni Makkai, Dean and Director of the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences congratulated staff on their strong research performance in the humanities and social science disciplines. The College, which is the largest college for undergraduate teaching in the University, continues to provide excellent teaching, research, and a wide range of degrees for its students.
“The college is strongly committed to research led education while ensuring a strong grounding in the theory and method of the core humanities and social science disciplines,” she said.
"The overall success of ANU in these latest rankings has further established the University as a World leader in providing quality education and puts it in the same league as other top ten Universities such as Harvard, Yale, Oxford, and Cambridge."
